Once the hook goes in the mouth of the fish and it tries to spit out the Pop-up ball, the ring along with the ball slides back on the shank and then the bare hook turns and bites on the lip of the fish. As the fish tries and get rid of the hook by vigorously shaking its head, the weight of the feeder completes the hook-up.
