Frequently asked questions

Are Daiwa reels good? Is Daiwa a good brand?

Yes. Daiwa is one of the world's top fishing tackle brands, with over 60 years of Japanese engineering behind it. Daiwa reels are known for smooth drag systems, durable builds and technologies like Air Rotor, LT (Light & Tough) design and the ATD (Automatic Tournament Drag) system. At Cabral Outdoors the range runs from budget-friendly beginner reels through to tough saltwater models like the Daiwa BG series, so there's a quality Daiwa reel for every angler and budget.

Where are Daiwa reels made?

Daiwa is a Japanese brand (part of Globeride, founded in 1958). Daiwa reels are manufactured across the company's own facilities in Japan (JDM), Thailand and Vietnam, all built to the same Daiwa quality standards. Every Daiwa product sold by Cabral Outdoors is 100% genuine.

Which Daiwa reel is best for beginners?

For most beginners we recommend the Daiwa Ninja or Crossfire spinning reels. They're affordable, reliable and easy to use for freshwater and light saltwater fishing. If you want a reel you won't outgrow quickly, the Daiwa Fuego LT is a popular step-up that still offers excellent value.

What is Daiwa J-Braid line?

Daiwa J-Braid is a premium braided fishing line available in both 4-strand (X4) and 8-strand (X8) versions. It offers excellent strength for its thickness, near-zero stretch for instant hook-sets, and long, smooth casting. The X4 is tough and abrasion-resistant for everyday fishing, while the rounder X8 casts further and runs more quietly through the guides. Both handle everything from freshwater to hard-fighting saltwater species.

Which Daiwa spinning reel should I choose?

It depends on where you fish. For freshwater and light shore fishing, entry reels like the Daiwa RS, RZ, Joinus and Strikeforce offer great value. Stepping up, the LT (Light & Tough) reels such as the Laguna LT, Aird LT, Legalis LT and Revros LT give you smoother drag and lighter bodies for regular use. For serious saltwater fishing, the Daiwa BG series (BG MQ, BG BL and BGRR) is a tough, metal-bodied workhorse built for bigger fish and harsh conditions.

Are Daiwa reels good for saltwater fishing?

Yes. The Daiwa BG series (BG MQ, BG BL and BGRR) is built specifically for saltwater — surf, rock and boat fishing — with a metal body, strong drag and corrosion-resistant construction. After every saltwater session, rinse your reel with fresh water to extend its life.
